Job title: Web Technical Analyst (Drupal)
Status: Full-time, exempt 
Schedule: M-F, 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m., 37.5 hours per week including occasional evening and weekend work and/or travel based on business needs/position requirements.  Note: This is an exempt position and there may be a need to work outside of core hours based on the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

Location: While IES Abroad is headquartered in Chicago, the Web Application Analyst will work out of his or her home office or out of IES Abroad headquarters in Chicago (as required).

Summary of position:

The Web Technical Analyst supports the design, development and maintenance efforts for the IES Abroad Public Website at www.IESAbroad.org and IES Abroad-related sites. A member of the Marketing Department, the Web Technical Analyst is responsible for performing technical analysis, development, and enhancement activities of the Drupal based websites and their integrations with 3rd party and IES developed systems.  The Web Technical Analyst should understand various methodologies (including scrum), related to the listed technologies and associated processes and participate in all phases of the software development life cycle (architecture and conceptual design, requirements analysis, design, coding, unit test, integration and system, user and performance level test). It is common for multiple projects to run concurrently requiring the ability to multi-task along with managing multiple organizational efforts. The Web Technical Analyst needs to be a team player and work well with other technical and development teams, must have a desire to learn and the ability to teach others.  Success factors for this position are a depth of technical knowledge, development and integration experience coupled with ability to understand and support practical, effective, customer-driven processes.

Essential job responsibilities & duties:

  • Work under the direction of the Marketing Department to support and build public website functionality
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders and end users (as applicable)
  • Contribute to, document and troubleshoot web-related enhancements/projects/fixes/testing through working with internal staff, partners, and outsourced vendors
  • Participate in two week Agile sprints as analyst, developer or tester, as needs require
  • Contribute high-quality code to the Drupal website codebase, as needed
  • Review, understand, follow and help to document detailed functional, and technical requirements of IES Abroad's public website (www.IESabroad.org)
  • Support related web needs and requests from The Study Abroad Foundation (SAF), IES Internships, Customized Programs, Advancement, and internal portals
  • Provide detailed project estimates and work plans 
  • Pro-actively seek out opportunities for enhancing existing technology or implementing new technology
  • Identify requirement gaps from a governance and IT point of view
  • Provide detailed technical specifications
  • Accurately document completed work
  • Participate in design and code reviews 
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position
  • Any other task or duty as assigned or required

The candidate should demonstrate experience and/or training in the following:

  • 1-3+ years' experience with Drupal
  • 1-3+ years' experience supporting web applications
  • Knowledge and experience with PHP, MySQL, XML, JSON, SOAP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, JQuery, and Solr search
  • Experience working with RESTful web services and XSLT
  • Knowledge of web standards and cross-browser development is required
  • Knowledge of version control systems (Git and Github), build scripting and deployment workflows
  • Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems
  • Demonstrate a solid portfolio of Drupal and web development work; preference will be given to candidates who are active contributors to the Drupal community.

Preferred:

  • Experience planning and implementing Google Analytics offsite conversion tracking and sales funnel

Education, Licenses and/or Certifications etc:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer-related major or equivalent work experience

Physical demands:

  • Ability to remain in a seated position for the majority of the day while in office (between 70% -100% of work time).
  • Ability to work for extended and continuous periods in office operating a computer, phone and other office equipment i.e., a copier and computer printer (between 70% -100% of work time).
  • Need to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets from 5% to 10% of work time.
  • Must be able to communicate via phone, email, and in-person with employees and organizational partners for the majority of the day (between 70% -100% of work time).

Working conditions/Environment:

  • May be required to work beyond office hours - some nights and weekends - as required by the needs of the department, this position and the organization.
  • Opportunity to work remotely for candidates with documented telecommuting experience:
  • Must be able to travel to Chicago HQ as needed based on business needs

Fiscal responsibilities:

  • Responsible for purchases via company credit card and ability to process expense reports in a timely and accurate manner
