Senior Annual Fund Manager

Status: Full-time, exempt

Schedule: M-F, 8.30a.m. 4.30p.m., 37.5 hours per week, and may include occasional evening and weekend work based on business needs and position requirements

Reports to: Executive Director of Advancement

Direct reports: Stewardship and Communications Coordinator, dotted line with Manager of Alumni Engagement, Events and Communications and Sr. Manager Advancement Operations and Research

Summary of position:

The Senior Annual Fund Manager is responsible for executing the strategic vision for Annual Giving and Stewardship and supporting the overall strategies of fundraising, alumni engagement, and communications. In collaboration with the Executive Director of Advancement, employ multichannel annual solicitation, stewardship, and alumni engagement strategies that result in the achievement of annual fundraising goals. Oversee social media, alumni communications, and provide day-to-day management and implementation of the annual giving program, including direct email, social media, and phone programs. Also, plan, produce, write and manage all aspects of alumni Exchange e-newsletters and annual print magazine. Support the Executive Director in department reports and evaluation work. Coordinate with team members on best practices and new activity for engagement and stewardship.

Job responsibilities:

Annual Giving and Stewardship Strategies

  • Develop and implement annual giving plan, write all content, and oversee segmentation strategies for annual giving appeals across multiple channels: mail, email, phone program, social media, giving days, and crowdfunding campaigns
  • Work with team to ensure annual giving materials and mailing calendar coordinate and support individual solicitation, reunion efforts, and overall fundraising calendar and objectives
  • Oversee and coordinate with Manager of Alumni Engagement, Events and Communications in strategy for all solicitations and stewardship for monthly giving program campaigns, and utilization of new communications channels (ex. text campaigns) for annual giving

Alumni Engagement, Social Media and Exchange Magazine

  • Develop content for Alumni Spotlight series (ex. Alum of the Month, How to Go Back Abroad) and special features: work with team for nominations/research alumni to feature, develop interview questions, interview alumni, edit content, and publish on website
  • Produce monthly Exchange e-newsletters and create/send other engagement emails to constituents
  • Manage all aspects of annual print magazine, Exchange, including writing content, content strategy, and working with external vendors on design/printing and mailing

Executive Director Support

  • Coordinate with Stewardship Coordinator on annual endowed scholarship reports
  • Draft first draft of quarterly Strategic Progress reports in coordination with Senior Manager, Advancement Operations and Research and Manager of Alumni Engagement, Events and Communications
  • Work with the Executive Director to develop department goals, strategies, and ensure production of reports to measure progress towards goals

Experience & Qualifications/Skills:

  • Minimum 5+ years relevant advancement/development experience, with at least 3 years working in writing & content development
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, web/social media management, database management, and graphic design experience a plus, but not required
  • Experience with Raisers Edge and email marketing systems, such as Net Community required
  • Ability to think creatively, critically, and strategically about all aspects of alumni engagement and development at IES Abroad.
  • Strong and persuasive oral and written communication skills, with the judgment and discretion to handle confidential or sensitive matter
  • Excellent writing skills, particularly in persuasive or storytelling contexts
  • Strong data analysis skills for developing segmentation and multi-channel strategies
  • Ability to analyze reports to support strategies for donor and dollar goals. Advanced proficiency with Excel is a plus
  • Proficiency with managing multiple tasks and priorities
  • Team-oriented and collaborative, excellent quantitative analysis skills, attention to detail and ability to think strategically
  • Demonstrated ability to craft and deliver annual giving appeals
  • Highly organized, with project management experience and ability to meet multiple deadlines
  • Flexibility and willingness to assume new tasks and special projects
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information and material in a discretionary manner


Bachelor's degree required, or relevant work experience or certification
