Employee Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator

Status: Full-time, exempt 

Schedule: M-F, 8.30a.m.-4.30p.m, including occasional evening and weekend work and possible travel based on seasonal business needs and position requirements

Reports to: Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer & Director of Human Resources

Summary of position:

The Employee Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator is a dedicated, full-time employee focused on further diversifying IES Abroad's workforce by working with hiring managers, employees, the Department of Human Resources and various diversity and inclusion groups and constituencies to help promote diversity as a key aspect of IES Abroad's mission. The Employee Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator will help develop, promote, oversee, implement and track measurable goals, outcomes and objectives relative to diversity across the organization and oversee an annual voluntary diversity survey among IES Abroad employees.

The Employee Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator will report directly to the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (EVP & COO) and the Director of Human Resources. The Employee Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator will coordinate and serve as a liaison across the organization and beyond on diversity and inclusion education, diversity recruiting and hiring practices. This will also include networking, helping to create diverse pools in searches, and helping to implement goals related to diversifying the IES workforce; in addition to taking on other duties as assigned by the EVP & COO and the Director of Human Resources.

Job responsibilities:

  • Proactively assist hiring managers and the Department of Human Resources relative to identifying, recruiting and interviewing diverse employees, with the overarching goal of taking the steps needed to help ensure IES Abroad has diverse pools of candidates for internal and external employee searches.
  • Establish and grow alliances between IES Abroad and diverse groups in the Chicago area and beyond, focusing on IES Abroad's broad definition of diversity.
  • Provide and/or arrange training for hiring managers in the U.S. and abroad concerning IES Abroad's diversity policies, protocols, goals and requirements.
  • Provide and oversee effective diversity training across the IES Abroad workforce every two years.
  • Helps develop training programs, schedules and content to better educate employees and managers on diversity and inclusion issues, IES Abroad's policies and protocols in these important areas, the importance of hiring from diverse pools and the benefits of a diverse workforce.
  • Address concerns, and provide recommendations in a concise and timely manner, both in writing and verbally.

Experience & Qualifications/Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience in a similar HR function. 
  • Demonstrated experience, leadership, strategic thinking, and teamwork attributes on implementing goals, projects or initiatives focused on D&I issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Detailed oriented and resourceful.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, nimble, results-oriented environment.
  • Experience working with internal and/or external partners and vendors to accomplish D&I goals.
  • Ability to process a broad range of external and internal sources of information including D&I trends and insights.


  • Bachelor's degree required.
